Herholdt Controls:
an engineering task force

Enter the Lab

Precision engineering, since day one

Herholdt Controls was founded in 1991 by Hans Herholdt to design industrial energy metering systems.

From the beginning the work focused on measurement technology designed for real applications, where reliability, integration and industrial production all matter.

From supplier to engineering partner

Over time the company moved beyond the role of meter supplier.

Today Herholdt Controls works with OEMs, system integrators and energy solution providers on the development of metering architectures, hardware and firmware, supporting integration into complex systems.

Part of Hager

Herholdt Controls joined Hager in 2017.

The integration strengthened production capacity and long-term supply continuity while Herholdt Controls continues to operate as a specialized engineering and R&D structure within the Group.

Engineering Focus

Today Herholdt Controls works on industrial metering and energy management projects that require integration, customization and close collaboration with OEM engineering teams.

The company operates in the space between large industrial manufacturers and commodity suppliers, acting as a technical project partner.

Customisation

Many projects start from existing hardware platforms and evolve according to the application.

Firmware adaptations, protocol implementations, embedded designs and private label versions are part of the normal development process.

In some cases the work begins from a fully custom design.

Our customisation process

Supply chain control

Production is based in Italy with direct control over key stages of the process including component sourcing, SMT assembly, firmware development and final validation.

This structure allows the company to maintain stable production and predictable delivery times even when the electronics supply market becomes unstable.

Our direction

The focus remains on supporting companies that build energy systems, EV charging infrastructure, HVAC platforms and other energy technologies that require reliable metering.

ECS and custom development

ECS is the energy meter product line developed by Herholdt Controls for industrial, building, HVAC, EV infrastructure, and energy management applications. It is an industrialised, validated, and certified platform that can be deployed as a complete stand-alone solution with consolidated hardware and proprietary firmware.

The ECS line is stable and scalable, available in MID and non-MID versions with multiple communication options. In addition to the standard platform, Herholdt Controls also develops fully customised solutions, ranging from modifications to electronics, firmware, interfaces, mechanics, or branding to entirely new architectures designed from the ground up.

MID: Certified energy measurement

Directive 2014/32/EU defines the framework for legally valid measuring instruments within the European Union. Herholdt Controls obtained MID certification in 2009 and has updated its products according to the latest harmonised standards, including EN 62052-31 safety requirements.

MID compliance impacts hardware tolerances, calibration processes, firmware management and traceability procedures. It is embedded in the design phase, not added afterwards. Testing and validation activities are supported by an internal certified CTF laboratory.
